Saregama India Limited - Commercial Intellectual Property Rights Dispute

  • 19-Jun-2025

The Suit involved claims concerning copyright infringement, payment of royalties, and the grant of a perpetual assignment of copyright. Among the issues before the court were complex questions of law and fact that had not previously been adjudicated, particularly in the context of interpreting the provisions of the Copyright Act, as amended in 2012.

This first-of-its-kind ruling addresses key issues around infringement, royalties, and assignment scope, setting a crucial precedent.
